Twilight Triples

The inaugural Twilight Triples kicked off the Matariki Weekend, with 84 players taking part in a fun and social afternoon of indoor bowls. Players were randomly drawn into teams on the day, creating a great opportunity to meet new people, play alongside different teammates, and test themselves in a new combination.

The event consisted of six games, each played over 35 minutes with no end limit. Final placings were determined by games won, followed by ends won, and then shots scored if required.

With $100 per person awarded to the winning team and $50 per person for the runners-up, competition was close throughout the afternoon.

The Twilight Triples provided an enjoyable opening to the Matariki Weekend, combining friendly competition with a format that encouraged players to connect with others from across the indoor bowls community.

Matariki Major Pairs

The Matariki Major Pairs attracted a strong field of 48 teams from across New Zealand, all competing for the coveted title and the $2,000 first prize.

The day began with section play, where teams played qualifying rounds and were ranked on games won, ends won, and shots scored across 40min and no end limit. The top half of 24 teams advanced to the Championship Playoff, with the leading eight teams earning a bye into the last 16. The remaining qualifying teams contested the opening knockout round, leading into a series of closely fought elimination matches to decide the champions.

Teams who narrowly missed Championship qualification competed in the Plate Competition, playing four five-end games. Final placings were again determined by games won, followed by ends won, and shots scored.

Super Star Singles

The Matariki Weekend concluded with the Super Star Singles, attracting a quality field of 64 players from across New Zealand. Following the same format as the Matariki Major Pairs, players first contested qualifying rounds before being ranked on games won, ends won, and shots scored all in the hopes of winning the $500 first place prize.

The top 32 players progressed to the Championship Playoff and straight in to the knockout rounds before the field was narrowed to the eventual finalists. Players who did not qualify for the Championship Playoff competed in the Plate Competition, where final placings were also determined on games won, ends won, and shots scored.

The Super Star Singles provided a fitting conclusion to the 2026 Matariki Weekend, bringing three days of competition to a close and showcasing the depth of talent within indoor bowls.
